New Wren Kitchens Workers Service 455

Stagecoach are introducing a new service from Cleethorpes for employees at Wren Kitchens in Barton on Tuesday 4th January, numbered 455. Whilst very much aimed at Wren commuters, it does appear to be a public bus service.

The 455 will depart Cleethorpes Pier at 0415 Monday to Saturday, returning from Barton at 1710. Whilst the service isn't yet in Stagecoach's journey planner, nor on bustimes.org or traveline, going by Stagecoach's pdf timetable, it will operate the service 250 route from Cleethorpes via Grimsby Town Centre to Grimsby College, before serving the Nunsthorpe, Laceby Acres and Wybers Wood estates in Grimsby. The next timing point is Stallingborough Roundabout, so presumably also serves Healing, then Immingham, South Killingholme, Ulceby, Thornton Curtis and Barrow before arriving at Wren Kitchens.

The 455 will be the only non-schools timetabled bus service for South Killingholme.

Also noteworthy, and almost certainty incidental rather than intentional, is that the morning 455 does offer a connection onto the new 0545 service 255 from Barton to Hull, providing a 0625 arrival into Hull City Centre from North East Lincolnshire. Based on timings at Wren Kitchens this is a 6 minute connection in Barton, though as Wren Kitchens is private property, anyone wanting to make such a journey would need to get off the 455 on Falkland Way in Barton and make the short walk to Barton Cemetery for the 255.

I've changed from the 355 to the 255 on the Wren Kitchens site, and nobody objected to me waiting for the 255 there despite me not being an employee there.

How long do you think the evening 455 will last? I see it run empty every day, with the only exception being when I'm on it.

The bizzar thing is wren people are waiting for the 17:37 250 at the Orangeleaf way stop. Perhaps no one has told them about the new 455, and if they are used to walking to there from wren they won't see the 455 parked in wren.

If you just miss the 15:55 250 from hull y ou can get the next 350 and walk to Falkland way (while I believe there isn't an official stop at opp Canberra view, I have successfully managed to stop both the 255 and 455 on its way out of Falkland way)

The morning connection is tight walking to the cemetery but it possible. A lot easier if you catch from Canberra view.

I'm assuming buses are fine serving Canberra view out of falkland way and they just messed up the stop data.

I presume Wren are financially supporting the 455, otherwise I'm sure the cancellation would be in all ready! Significant dead mileage and I've seen it empty too. You would hope one or two Wren commuters at least would have started using it, even allowing for commuting habits taking time to change.

Regarding whoever is using the 1737 250 - depends what time they finish work and also where they are going, given the 250 and 455 have very different routes between Ulceby and Nuns Corner.

I'm sure a few weeks ago when I looked at the Falkland Way stop timetables, the Canberra View stop only had timetables in one direction, whereas the Orangeleaf Way stop had timetables for 'both sides of the road'. Probably means Canberra View is officially a stop in one direction only.

The Canberra View stop now has a 'both sides of the road' label on the bus stop flag

Wren Kitchens are paying for the route. They've also removed their own WrenFlyer to Grimsby and Cleethorpes to encourage the use of the 455 and as a result it's seeing more signifcant passengers out of Barton now.

There is now another trip leaving at 14:50, nothing on timetable yet though. However there is still only one trip from Cleethorpes. Wren must have some very interesting shift patterns

The 1450 255 from Barton to Hull has also been running on Saturdays recently (Mon-Fri only in the timetable)

Based on their job adverts, the main factory/warehouse shifts are 4 days out of 6 Mon-Sat 0600-1645 or 1645-0330. There are then also Mon-Fri 0600-1430 and 1430-2300 shifts as well - however the 0600-1430 shift seems to have been working Saturdays too recently going by the number of people leaving Wren just after 1430

Wren as well seem to change their shift patterns a bit. A year ago they had Mon-Sat 0700-1530 and 1530-0000 shifts. Then Mon-Thu 0600-1645/1645-0330 and Fri-Sun 0600-1900/1800-0600 for around 6 months before changing again at the start of the year.

After keeping an eye out on Twitter :
The new 14:50 455 is closed to the general public. It was created in a bit of a rush, so the contract states it is a contract service. Despite this Stagecoach said they have the view to make it public in the future.

As for what would happen if a normal person tried to get it, I'm not sure, I wonder if the drivers would even notice since all 255/355/455s so far have been public

Slightly disappointing for me as I live in Immingham. I guess I'll just wait for the 1710
