Christmas and New Year Bus Services 2025/2026

Here is my annual summary of Christmas and New Year bus services across the Humber Region. It covers the following operators, but not their services outside the region:

  • Arriva Yorkshire
  • CallConnect
  • East Yorkshire (see comments below)
  • First South Yorkshire (see comments below)
  • First York
  • Grayscroft Coaches
  • Hornsby Travel
  • North Lincolnshire Council (Services 96/97/97A)
  • PC Coaches
  • Sweyne Coaches (Goole+Howden Hopper)
  • Stagecoach
  • Thornes Independent
  • York Pullman
Sadly East Yorkshire Buses haven't produced their usual comprehensive summary listing all the 'exceptions' to the standard service pattern and I haven't got the time to go through all their timetables route-by-route. As such I can't offer the usual level of detail for them. Presumably it's a case of:
-Less than six day a week services operating as normal on the normal weekdays over Christmas and New Year
-Some extra early morning services.
-Friday and Saturday evening only services not operating Monday and Tuesdays where a Saturday service otherwise applies

I always say "Please check exact details before travelling as I have only summarised here, or for any occasions were publicity is incorrect, or I have made a mistake". That still stands, but is exceptionally important in the case of East Yorkshire Buses and also First South Yorkshire who have taken a similar approach.

If you have any information for other operators, or to correct any details listed below, please post a comment.

Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December:
Predominantly normal services, with the following exceptions:
  • East Yorkshire and First South Yorkshire will provide a Saturday service with some exceptions, please check with the operator for details.
  • Stagecoach will operate a Saturday service on North East Lincolnshire services 7, 11 and 12. (Stagecoach's Grimsby pdf timetable states Saturday service on routes 1, 2, 6, 8, 20, 53, 250 and 251, but the Saturday service is identical to the Monday to Friday School Holiday service).
  • Stagecoach service 255 (North Bransholme-Hull-Barton Wren Kitchens) will operate five journeys only, at 0700 from North Bransholme, 1705 from Hull and at 0850, 1750 and 2320 from Barton Wren Kitchens. I presume associated service 256 isn't operating, but the Stagecoach Hull pdf summary doesn't explicitly state this.
  • North Lincolnshire Council service 96 (Barton-Brigg) will not operate the 1600 Barton-Brigg or 1710 Brigg-South Ferriby journeys.
It is interesting to see East Yorkshire and Stagecoach differ on service levels in Hull, they usually have the same 'base' provision but for two days Stagecoach will be a normal weekday service and East Yorkshire a Saturday service.

Christmas Eve:
Predominantly a Saturday service with an early finish between approximately 1700 and 2000, plus the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel, PC Coaches, Stagecoach's Scunthorpe services, Thornes and York Pullman will operate a normal Wednesday service with early finish.
  • Stagecoach services 5/5M/5S/45 (Cleethorpes-Grimsby-Immingham), 9/10 (Waltham-Grimsby-Cleethorpes-Humberston), 11A (Hull-Castle Hill Hospital) and 20 (Hull Priory Park and Ride) will operate as normal. Afternoon 11A journeys replace similar timed service 11 journeys.
  • Stagecoach will provide extra early morning journeys on selected services in Grimsby and Hull.
  • Stagecoach Monday to Friday service 255 (North Bransholme-Hull-Barton Wren Kitchens) will operate four journeys only, at 0700 from North Bransholme, 1705 from Hull and at 0850 and 1750 from Barton Wren Kitchens. Associated service 256 will not operate.
  • Stagecoach service 7M (North Bransholme-Hull-Melton) will operate four journeys only, at 0655 from Hull to Melton, 0820 North Bransholme to Melton, 1610 Melton to Hull and 1810 Melton to North Bransholme.
  • Stagecoach service 16 (Hull-Siemens) will not operate the 0730 journey.
  • North Lincolnshire Council service 96 (Barton-Brigg) will operate as normal except for the 1600 Barton-Brigg and 1710 Brigg-South Ferriby journeys.
Please check with East Yorkshire and First South Yorkshire for any exceptions to a standard Saturday service.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day:
No services.

Saturday 27th December:
Normal Saturday service, except for no evening service on Hornsby service 4 (Brigg-Scunthorpe).

Sunday 29th December:
Normal Sunday service.

Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:

  • Hornsby Travel, North Lincolnshire Council, PC Coaches, Stagecoach's Scunthorpe services and Thornes will operate a normal service.
  • Stagecoach services 5/5M/5S/45 (Cleethorpes-Grimsby-Immingham), 7M (North Bransholme-Melton), 9/10 (Waltham-Grimsby-Cleethorpes-Humberston), 11A (Hull-Castle Hill Hospital) and 20 (Hull Priory Park and Ride) will operate as normal on both days, as will service 398 (Belton-Gainsborough) on Tuesday 30th December only.
  • Stagecoach service 16 (Hull-Siemens) will not operate the 0730 journey.
  • Grayscroft service 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby) will operate as normal on Tuesday 30th December. For the avoidance of doubt Tuesday only service 28 (Sandilands-Grimsby) will not operate this week.
  • North Lincolnshire Council service 96 (Barton-Brigg) will not operate the 1600 Barton-Brigg or 1710 Brigg-South Ferriby journeys.
Please check with East Yorkshire and First South Yorkshire for any exceptions to a standard Saturday service.

New Years Eve:
Predominantly a Saturday service with an early finish between approximately 1700 and 2000, plus the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel, PC Coaches, Stagecoach's Scunthorpe services and Thornes will operate a normal Wednesday service with early finish.

New Years Day:
No services (train services will be operating however, in many instances to a normal Thursday timetable apart from early morning services and engineering works related disruption).

Friday 2nd January:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • CallConnect, Grayscroft Coaches, Hornsby Travel, North Lincolnshire Council, PC Coaches, Stagecoach's Scunthorpe services, Thornes and York Pullman will operate a normal Friday service.
  • Stagecoach services 5/5M/5S/45 (Cleethorpes-Grimsby-Immingham), 7M (North Bransholme-Melton), 9/10 (Waltham-Grimsby-Cleethorpes-Humberston), 11A (Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 20 (Hull Priory Park and Ride), 255 (North Bransholme-Barton Wren Kitchens) and 398 (Belton-Gainsborough) will operate as normal. Afternoon 11A journeys replace similar timed service 11 journeys. Presumably the 256 also operates as normal if the 255 does, but again not explicitly mentioned in the Stagecoach Hull Christmas pdf,
  • Stagecoach will provide extra early morning journeys on selected services in Grimsby and Hull.
  • Stagecoach service 16 (Hull-Siemens) will not operate the 0730 journey.
Please check with East Yorkshire and First South Yorkshire for any exceptions to a standard Saturday service.

Christmas and New Year Bus Services 2024/2025

It's time again for my annual summary of Christmas and New Year bus services across the Humber Region. It covers the following operators, but not their services outside the region:

  • Arriva Yorkshire
  • CallConnect
  • East Yorkshire (excluding JustGo, and service 18 between Holme Upon Spalding Moor and York; East Yorkshire's festive bus times page indicates normal service except Christmas/Boxing/New Years Day, their timetable indicates a Saturday service most days)
  • First South Yorkshire (Doncaster Area)
  • First York
  • Grayscroft Coaches
  • Hornsby Travel
  • PC Coaches
  • Sweyne Coaches (Goole+Howden Hopper)
  • Stagecoach
  • Thornes Independent
  • York Pullman
Please check exact details before travelling as I have only summarised here, or for any occasions were publicity is incorrect, or I have made a mistake. If you have any information for other operators, or to correct any details listed below, please post a comment.

Monday 23rd December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Arriva Yorkshire, CallConnect, First York, Grayscroft Coaches, Hornsby Travel, PC Coaches, Stagecoach in North Lincolnshire (including cross-border services), Thornes and York Pullman will operate a normal Monday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 1 (Holme on Spalding Moor-Selby), 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley), 150 (North Ferriby-Hessle), 197 (Pocklington Town Service) and 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach will provide extra early morning journeys on selected services in Grimsby and Hull.
  • Stagecoach Monday to Friday service 255 (North Bransholme-Barton Wren Kitchens) will operate three journeys only, at 0700 from North Bransholme and at 1710 and 1750 from Barton Wren Kitchens. Associated service 256 will not operate.
  • East Yorkshire service 58 (Hull to Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency as compared to it's usual Monday to Saturday every 15 minutes frequency.
  • East Yorkshire services 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital) and 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency as compared to their usual Monday to Saturday every 20 minute daytime frequencies.
  • East Yorkshire service 196 (Allerthorpe-York) will not operate as per a normal Monday.
  • East Yorkshire services 55/79/142/180/277/512/513/525/747/G1 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Monday evening journeys on the 55 will however).
  • First South Yorkshire services 359/360 Thursday, Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate.
  • East Yorkshire services 57/58/104 and Stagecoach Hull services 5/6/8/13 Saturday only nightbus journeys post midnight (early hours Sunday morning) will not operate.
  • East Yorkshire service 41 journeys at 2252 from Nafferton to Beverley, and at 2330 from Beverley to Driffield will not operate. These journeys usually operate Friday and Saturday evening only. The 1950 Bridlington to Hull and 2135 from Hull to Nafferton will operate though as per the Friday/Saturday evening timetable.
It is disappointing to see that East Yorkshire are providing a reduced service compared to both weekdays and Saturdays on four Hull area routes. Also of note are the East Yorkshire operated tendered Goole Town Services operating to a Saturday rather than a normal Monday to Friday timetable as per the historical norm over the Christmas and New Year period - this means no peak time services for two weeks.

Interestingly the usual Friday and Saturday evening only journeys on East Yorkshire services 25 and X47 do appear to be operating today, and also on Monday 30th and Thursday 2nd.

Christmas Eve:
Predominantly a Saturday service with an early finish between approximately 1700 and 2000, plus the following exceptions:
  • Arriva Yorkshire, Grayscroft Coaches, Hornsby Travel, PC Coaches, Stagecoach in North Lincolnshire (including cross-border services), Thornes and York Pullman will operate a normal Tuesday service with early finish.
  • East Yorkshire services 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 144 (South Cave-Beverley), 150 (North Ferriby-Hessle), 195 (Allerthorpe-Pocklington), 197 (Pocklington Town Service), 199 (Huggate-Pocklington) and 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) will operate as normal.
  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.
  • East Yorkshire services 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) and 196 (Allerthorpe-York) will not operate as per a normal Tuesday.
Christmas Day:
No services.

Boxing Day:
No services.

Friday 27th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel, PC Coaches, Stagecoach in North Lincolnshire (including cross-border services) and Thornes will operate a normal Friday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 1 (Holme on Spalding Moor-Selby), 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 150 (North Ferriby-Hessle), 183 (Hessle Town Service), 197 (Pocklington Town Service) and 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach service 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby) will operate as normal.
  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.
  • East Yorkshire service 142 (Beverley-Cherry Burton) has no evening service showing on it's online timetable as per a normal Friday.
  • East Yorkshire services 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) and 196 (Allerthorpe-York) will not operate as per a normal Friday.
  • East Yorkshire services 57/58/104 and Stagecoach Hull services 5/6/8/13 Saturday only nightbus journeys post midnight (early hours Sunday morning) will not operate.
Last year I commented that Stagecoach might as well operate a normal service on the normal weekdays between Christmas and New Year in the Scunthorpe area, as opposed to a Saturday service with multiple exceptions; their commercial services have almost identical Monday to Friday and Saturday timetables, whilst some of their tendered services are significantly different. This year that is exactly what they have chosen to do.

Saturday 28th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.

  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.
• East Yorkshire services 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 144 (South Cave-Beverley), 150 (North Ferriby-Hessle), 195 (Allerthorpe-Pocklington), 197 (Pocklington Town Service), 199 (Huggate-Pocklington) and 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) will operate as normal.
  • Grayscroft Coaches Tuesday only service 28 (Sutton on Sera-Grimsby) will not operate.
  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.
  • East Yorkshire services 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) and 196 (Allerthorpe-York) will not operate as per a normal Tuesday.

  • Stagecoach service 5 (Grimsby-Immingham) will operate as normal.
Associated service 256 will not operate.2
  • East Yorkshire service 51 (Hull to Wymersley Road), 56 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Castle Hill Hospital), 57 (Asda Bilton-Hull-Hessle) and 58 (Hull-Hessle) will operate at a reduced half hourly daytime frequency.

Christmas and New Year Bus Services 2023/2024

Here is my annual summary of Christmas and New Year bus services across the Humber Region. It covers the following operators, but not their services outside the region:

  • Arriva Yorkshire
  • CallConnect
  • East Yorkshire (excluding JustGo)
  • First South Yorkshire (Doncaster Area)
  • First York
  • Grayscroft Coaches
  • Hornsby Travel
  • PC Coaches
  • Stagecoach
  • York Pullman
Please check exact details before travelling as I have only summarised here, or for any occasions were publicity is incorrect (it's happened before!). If you have any information for other operators, or to correct any details listed below, please post a comment.

Christmas Eve:
Normal Sunday service with an early finish between approximately 1700 and 2000.

Christmas Day:
No services.

Boxing Day:
No services. Which deserves a comment as previously East Yorkshire had provided Boxing Day daytime buses on main routes around Hull as well as from Beverley and Withernsea; going back to 2021 the network had extended to Bridlington and York. This follows Stagecoach ceasing Boxing Day buses in Hull from 2021 onwards.

Wednesday 27th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel and PC Coaches will operate a normal Wednesday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 142 (Beverley-Middleton), 145 (Market Weighton/Lund-Driffield-Bridlington), 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe), 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) and G1-5 (Goole Town Services) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach services 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 79 (Hull-Hedon), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe), 260 (Barton Villager) and 277 (Hedon-Hull) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach service 255 (North Bransholme-Barton Wren Kitchens) will operate two journeys only, at 0700 from North Bransholme and at 1710 from Barton Wren Kitchens. (The 255 would not normally operate on Saturdays).
  • East Yorkshire service 196 (Allerthorpe-York) will not operate as per East Yorkshire's timetable page (wouldn't usually operate on a Wednesday).
  • East Yorkshire services 18/25/54/55/63/75/121/747/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Wednesday evening journeys on the 54/55/63/75/121/X47 will however).
  • East Yorkshire services 57/66/104 Saturday only nightbus journeys post midnight will not operate.
  • Stagecoach services 5/6/8/13 in Hull Saturday only nightbus journeys post-midnight will not operate.
As has become annual in recent years, the usually Saturday only Stagecoach 173 between Withernsea and Hull will be operated Wednesday to Saturday for one week only.

Stagecoach operating their morning journeys on service 79 between Hull and Hedon makes sense, as their is no equivalent in the Saturday timetable provided by the main operator of the route, East Yorkshire. However the afternoon service operating is odd. Stagecoach's tendered 1600 service 79 from Hull to Hedon is to cover for the East Yorkshire 1550 service 79 being Saturday only. However as East Yorkshire are operating a Saturday service, the 1550 will operate today, and on the 28th and 29th, in addition to the 1600. Likewise with the 277, Stagecoach's tendered Monday to Friday 1644 from Hedon to Hull is to cover for the East Yorkshire 1629 operating in the Saturday timetable only.

South of the Humber and if you take the publicity at face value, Hornsby are operating a full Monday to Friday service 399 between Scunthorpe and Doncaster, and Stagecoach a full Saturday service. Stagecoach's Saturday service operates all day to cover for no Hornsby 399 on Saturdays. So as per publicity, that means both operators will have an all day service 399 on the 27th, 28th and 29th. Presumably Stagecoach will actually operate their Monday to Friday timetable on the 399 on these three days, with just an evening peak service after the Hornsby service finishes for the day.

Finally, I do wonder if Stagecoach would be better off just running a normal weekday service in Scunthorpe between Christmas and New Year? Their commercial services are almost identical Monday to Friday and Saturday, whilst their North Lincolnshire Council tenders all seem to specify Monday to Friday service. It would be easier to communicate service levels to the general public at least.

Thursday 28th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel and PC Coaches will operate a normal Thursday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 131 (Bridlington-Carnaby Industrial Estate), 142 (Beverley-Middleton), 145 (Market Weighton/Lund-Driffield-Bridlington), 150 (Swanland-Hessle), 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe), 504 (Bempton-Bridlington) and G1-5 (Goole Town Services) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach services 10 (Ashby Parklands-Ashby), 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 79 (Hull-Hedon), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe), 260 (Barton Villager) and 277 (Hedon-Hull) will operate as normal.

  • East Yorkshire service 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Thursday).
  • East Yorkshire services 18/25/54/55/63/75/121/747/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Thursday evening journeys on the 54/55/63/75/121/X47 will however).
  • East Yorkshire services 57/66/104 Saturday only nightbus journeys post midnight will not operate.
  • Stagecoach services 5/6/8/13 in Hull Saturday only nightbus journeys post-midnight will not operate.

Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel and PC Coaches will operate a normal Friday service.

  • East Yorkshire services 57/66/104 Saturday only nightbus journeys post midnight (early hours Sunday morning) will not operate.
  • Stagecoach services 5/6/8/13 in Hull Saturday (early hours Sunday morning) only nightbus journeys post-midnight will not operate.

New Years Eve:

Tuesday 2nd January:
Services return to normal, albeit with a mix of School Day and School Holiday variations.

Sunday Services Return between Goole and Selby

Arriva service 401 between Goole and Selby is revised from today - Monday 30th October. The Monday to Friday changes relate to extra school and college journeys, otherwise the Monday to Saturday service remains hourly daytimes.

The big development is a new two hourly Sunday service being introduced, leaving Goole at 0900, 1100, 1300 and 1500, returning from Selby at 0955, 1155, 1355 and 1555. This will be the first Sunday service between Goole and Selby - and the first Sunday bus service for Rawcliffe, East Cowick, West Cowick, Snaith, Carlton and Camblesforth - since the 400/401 tendered service was cut during East Riding of Yorkshire Council budget reductions in Spring 2017. It's good to see it return.

The new Sunday service has 21 minute layover at Goole, so it's a shame that Airmyn village and Goole Hospital haven't been included on the new route, unlike the old Sunday 400 - or maybe an extension to the Fairfield Estate in Goole. Possibly something for the future?

I can't find any mention of this to confirm in either the Arriva announcement or East Riding of Yorkshire Council Press Release, but presumably the new Sunday 401 is being funded by the Council's Bus Service Improvement Plan Plus funding as the date coincides with other new Sunday services.

Christmas and New Year Bus Services 2022/2023

Time for the annual summary of Christmas and New Year bus services across the Humber Region. The following operators are included, but not their services outside the region:

  • Arriva Yorkshire
  • CallConnect
  • East Yorkshire (excluding JustGo)
  • First South Yorkshire (Doncaster Area)
  • First York
  • Grayscroft Coaches
  • Hornsby Travel
  • Stagecoach - with a caveat that Stagecoach publicity indicates services to Wren Kitchens in Barton have not been confirmed
Please check exact details before travelling as I have only summarised here, or for any occasions were publicity is incorrect (it's happened before!). Not much luck finding definitive information for many of the region's independent operators sadly this year, but if you have any information for other operators, or to correct any details listed below, please post a comment.

Christmas Eve:
Normal Saturday service with an early finish between approximately 1800 and 2000.

Christmas Day:
No services.

Boxing Day:
No services, apart from a limited daytime provision operated by East Yorkshire on the following routes:
  • 23: Hull-Beverley-Molescroft - Hourly
  • 56: Wymersley Road-Hull-Asda Bilton - Hourly
  • 63: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
  • 66: Hull-Hessle - Hourly
  • 75: Hull-Withernsea - Every two hours, with an extra morning journey to Hull and an extra afternoon journey from Hull.
  • 104: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
  • 154: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
Compared to 2021, this is a somewhat reduced offering overall. The 23 is new for Boxing Day, but acts as a replacement for the two hourly 121 between Hull, Beverley and Bridlington and the two hourly X46 between Hull, Beverley and York that operated last year. Good for Dunswell, Woodmansey and Molescroft, but not so good for places like Driffield, Bridlington, Pocklington or York. One interesting quirk is that parts of Beverley and Molescroft will have the 23 on Boxing Day, but no service on the 27th and 2nd as the 23 doesn't operate on a Sunday. Elsewhere the 56 is reduced from half hourly to hourly (it's historical Boxing Day norm; the half hourly frequency was only introduced last year).

At least East Yorkshire are providing a Boxing Day service though. For the second year running there are no Stagecoach services in Hull on Boxing Day (last provided in 2020), and as per normal, no service South of the Humber.

Bank Holiday Tuesday 27th December:
A Sunday service will be provided.

Last year East Yorkshire provided a hybrid Saturday/Sunday daytime and Sunday/Monday evening service on Bank Holidays 27th/28th, but this year it's a standard Sunday service. Whilst in most instances the impact is on frequencies, start and finish times, it does mean no service between Hessle and Beverley on the 25 and between Hull and Gilberdyke on the 55.

Wednesday 28th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel will operate a normal Wednesday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 124 (Ruston Parva-Bridlington) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach services 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe) and 260 (Barton Villager) will operate as normal (and presumably the 399 between Scunthorpe and Westwoodside, given that Hornsby are operating a normal service).
  • Stagecoach service 291 (Owston Ferry-Doncaster) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Wednesday and will be covered by the normal weekday service on Hornsby's 399)
  • East Yorkshire services 18/25/54/63/75/121/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Wednesday evening journeys on the 54/63/75/121/X47 will however).
Going by Stagecoach's publicity I would have to assume the usually Saturday only 173 between Withernsea and Hull will be operated Wednesday to Saturday for one week only. Passengers on the East Yorkshire operated 142 between Middleton and Beverley will also benefit from an extra afternoon journey on the Saturday timetable, compared to the standard weekday service.

Thursday 29th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
  • Hornsby Travel will operate a normal Thursday service.
  • East Yorkshire services 135 (Driffield-Sledmere), 150 (Swanland-Hessle), 196 (Allerthorpe-York) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal.
  • Stagecoach services 10 (Ashby Parklands-Ashby), 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe) and 260 (Barton Villager) will operate as normal (and again presumably the 399 as well).
  • East Yorkshire service 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Thursday).
  • Stagecoach service 291 (Owston Ferry-Doncaster) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Thursday and will be covered by the normal weekday service on Hornsby's 399)
  • East Yorkshire services 18/25/54/63/75/121/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Thursday evening journeys on the 54/63/75/121/X47 will however).

    Friday 30th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
    • Hornsby Travel will operate a normal Friday service.
    • East Yorkshire services 124 (Boynton-Driffield), 183 (Hessle Town Service) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal.
    • Stagecoach services 10 (Burringham-Scunthorpe), 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby), 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe) and 260 (Barton Villager) will operate as normal (and again presumably the 399 as well).
    • East Yorkshire service 143 (North Ferriby-Beverley) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Friday).
    • Stagecoach service 291 (Owston Ferry-Doncaster) will not operate (wouldn't usually operate on a Friday and will be covered by the normal weekday service on Hornsby's 399)

    New Years Eve:
Normal Saturday service with an early finish between approximately 1800 and 2000.

    New Years Day:
No services (train services will be operating however, in many instances to a normal Sunday timetable apart from early morning services and engineering works related disruption).

    Bank Holiday Monday 2nd January:
A Sunday service will be provided.

    Tuesday 3rd January:
    Services return to normal.

Christmas and New Year Bus Services 2021/2022

It's the time of year again for my annual summary of Christmas and New Year bus services across the Humber Region. The following operators are included, but not their services outside the region:

    • Arriva Yorkshire
    • CallConnect
    • East Yorkshire (excluding JustGo)
    • First South Yorkshire (Doncaster Area)
    • First York
    • Grayscroft Coaches
    • Hornsby Travel
    • Hunts Coaches
    • PC Coaches
    • Stagecoach
    • York Pullman (obtained via itravelyork.info)

Please check exact details before travelling as I have only summarised here, or for any occasions were publicity is incorrect (it's happened before!). If you have any further information for other operators, or to correct any details listed here, please post a comment.

Monday 20st December to Thursday 23rd December:
Normal services, except First South Yorkshire who will be operating a Saturday service.

    Christmas Eve:
Predominately a normal Friday service finishing between approximately 1800 and 2000, with the following exceptions:
    • CallConnect, First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach will operate a Saturday service.
    • Stagecoach services 10 (Burringham-Scunthorpe), 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby), 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 79 (Hedon-Hull), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe), 260 (Barton Villager) and 277 (Hedon-Hull) will operate as normal.

    Christmas Day:
    No services.

    Boxing Day:
No services, apart from a limited service operated by East Yorkshire (see below). This is notable in that Stagecoach will not be operating any city services in Hull on Boxing Day this year, compared to the Sunday service offered last year between 0900 and 1800, and the predominately hourly service on main routes provided for a number of years prior.

East Yorkshire will be operating the following daytime services:
    • 56: Wymersely Road-Hull-Asda Bilton - Half Hourly
    • 63: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
    • 66: Hull-Hessle - Hourly
    • 75: Hull-Withernsea - Every two hours, with an extra morning journey to Hull and an extra afternoon journey from Hull.
    • 104: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
    • 121: Hull-Bridlington - Every two hours
    • 154: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
    • X46: Hull-York - Every two hours
Compared to last year, the 56 is increased from hourly to half hourly, and is extended to operate between Hull City Centre and Wymersley Road, in part replacing the hourly 34 between Hull and Willerby that isn't operating this year. Also not operating this year, compared to 2020, are the 12 between Bridlington and Scarborough and the X47 between Pocklington and York (the X46 still provides a service to some of the X47 communities).

Bank Holidays Monday 27th December & Tuesday 28th December:
A Sunday service will be provided, with the exception of East Yorkshire who will provide a hybrid timetable that is a mix of almost normal Saturday timetables on some routes and service levels that are higher than Sundays but lower than Saturdays on others, with elements of Monday & Tuesday evening and Sunday provision mixed in - summary below:
    • 12: Bridlington-Scarborough - Sunday service (which other than early mornings, is the same as Monday-Saturday).
    • 23: Hull-Beverley - Saturday service from Hull, Cannot get the timetable from Beverley to show on the East Yorkshire website, but assume that it is also the same or very similar to Saturdays.
    • 24: Hull-Hornsea - Saturday service apart from no 0630 Hornsea-Hull.
    • 25: Hessle-Beverley-Hornsea - Saturday service apart from the 0700 from Hornsea starts in Beverley at 0745, whilst there is no 2340 from Beverley to Hornsea (as is usual for a Monday/Tuesday).
    • 45/45A/46: Bridlington-Pocklington-York - Hourly daytime service between Pocklington to York (as normal for Monday to Saturday), 3 journeys in each direction extend to/from Bridlington (Mon-Sat usually extends hourly to Market Weighton then two hourly to Bridlington and two hourly to Holme on Spalding Moor).
    • 54: Hull-Willerby - Half Hourly Daytime and Hourly Evening service.
    • 55: Hull-Gilberdyke-Goole - Saturday service between Hull and Gilberdyke only, with no 0635 Gilberdyke-Hull, 0725 Elloughton-Goole or 0800 Hull-Gilberdyke. No service between Gilberdyke and Goole.
    • 56: Wymersley Road-Hull-Asda Bilton - Half Hourly Daytime and Hourly Evening service.
    • 57: Hessle-Hull-Asda Bilton - Half Hourly Daytime and Hourly Evening service.
    • 63: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Saturday service from Hull apart from no 0610 and 2330 departures (the latter does not normally operate on a Monday/Tuesday, Cannot get the timetable from Castle Hill to show in full on the East Yorkshire website, but assume that it is also the same or very similar to Saturdays.
    • 66: Hull-Hessle - Every 20 minutes Daytimes and Hourly Evening service.
    • 75: Hull-Withernsea - Saturday service except no 0530, 0600 or 1847 from Withernsea and no 0645, 0715 or 2010 from Hull (the evening provision therefore matches a normal Monday and Tuesday)
    • 104: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Half Hourly Daytime and Hourly Evening service.
    • 105: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Saturday service, except no 0655 from Hull, 0700 and 0730 from Castle Hill.
    • 121: Hull-Beverley-Bridlington - Saturday daytime service, except no 0605 or 0705 from Beverley to Hull. Normal Monday/Tuesday evening service.
    • 130: Hornsea-Bridlington - Weekend service.
    • 152: Hull-Anlaby-Bridgehead Business Park - Hourly daytime service with hourly early evening Hull to Anlaby 'shorts' (normal frequency but at different times).
    • 153: Hull-Swanland - Hourly daytime service (normal frequency but at different times).
    • 154: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Half Hourly Daytime and Hourly Evening service.
    • 350: Hull-Scunthorpe - Sunday service
    • X7: Hull-Withernsea - Saturday service
    • X46/X47: Hull to York - Saturday daytime service, apart from no 0620 Pocklington to York X47 and the 0702 York to Hull X46 starting in Pocklington at 0740, with the usual Monday/Tuesday evening service.
The above covers all routes usually served on a Sunday, plus some that aren't. All references to normal timetables relate to the current temporary timetables due to the driver shortage.

    Wednesday 29th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
    • Hornsby Travel and PC Coaches will operate a normal Wednesday service.
    • East Yorkshire services 88 (Goole-Rawcliffe Bridge) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal.

    • York Pullman services 36/X36 (Pocklington-Sutton Upon Derwent-York) will operate as normal.
    • East Yorkshire service 142 (Cherry Burton-Beverley) will not operate.
    • East Yorkshire services B1/B2/18/25/54/63/75/121/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Wednesday evening journeys on the 25/54/63/75/121/X47 will however).
(As a side note, Stagecoach operated Saturday service 173 between Withernsea and Hull will be operating as part of Stagecoach's Saturday provision on Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th and Friday 31st, so three times the normal service level this week, allowing for no service on Saturday 1st!).

    Thursday 30th December:
Predominantly a Saturday service, with the following exceptions:
    • Hornsby Travel and PC Coaches will operate a normal Thursday service.

    • Stagecoach services 10 (Ashby Parklands-Ashby), 35 (Amcotts-Scunthorpe), 60 (Whitton-Scunthorpe), 90 (Crowle-Scunthorpe) and 260 (Barton Villager) will operate as normal.
    • York Pullman services 36/X36 (Pocklington-Sutton Upon Derwent-York) will operate as normal.

      UPDATED 21/12/20 REGARDING SERVICES 10 AND 260.

Monday 21st December to Christmas Eve:
Normal services, except First South Yorkshire who will be operating a Saturday service.

      Christmas Eve:
Normal services, except for CallConnect and First South Yorkshire who will be operating a Saturday service. Services will finish at approximately 2000.

      Christmas Day:
      No services.

      Boxing Day:
Daytime services will operate on selected routes in Hull and East Yorkshire.

This year, as opposed to special timetables, Stagecoach have opted for a Sunday service between 0900 and 1800 on all 'local' routes within Hull, which results in a notable uplift in Boxing Day services:
      • The 1 and 2A in West Hull go from hourly last year to half hourly this year.
      • The 6 operates for the first time on Boxing Day, albeit in part serving as a replacement for the 10a.
      • Sutton Park goes from one bus per hour last year on service 8 to three across services 2A and 8.
      • North Branshome goes from an hourly 10a last year to a half hourly 2A and hourly 6 this year.
      • The 12 goes from hourly last year, as the 12a, to half hourly this year.
The 11 drops from a half hourly 11a last year to hourly this year, but service 8 provides a second hourly frequency over part of the route.

East Yorkshire will be operating the following daytime services (same pattern as last year):
      • 12: Bridlington-Scarborough - Every two hours
      • 34: Hull-Willerby - Hourly
      • 56: Hull-Asda Bilton - Hourly
      • 63: Hull-Castle Hill Hospital - Hourly
      • 66: Hull-Hessle - Hourly

      • Hornsby Travel will operate a normal Tuesday service.

      • Grayscroft Coaches Tuesday service 28 (Sandilands-Grimsby) will not operate.
      • East Yorkshire services 18/75/121/X47 Friday and Saturday only evening journeys will not operate (normal Tuesday evening journeys on the 75/121/X47 will however).
(Hunts Coaches usual Tuesday service to Grimsby is not operating due to COVID-19 restrictions).

No services (train services will be operating however, in many instances to a normal Friday timetable apart from early morning services).

        Saturday 2nd January:
        Services return to normal.

Arriva Changes in the East Riding

From Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August, Arriva are making some extensive changes to their Selby area services. Arriva's services into the East Riding of Yorkshire are included in these revisions, as detailed below.

The biggest change is the withdrawal of service 4, and associated college variant X4, with only the X4 being replaced. Service 4 links Goole Town Centre, Goole Hospital and Howden with the North Yorkshire villages of Hemingbrough, Cliffe and Osgodby, before terminating in Selby. Monday to Friday the 4 offers an off peak service of three journeys from Goole to Selby, two from Selby to Goole and a single additional service in each direction between Hemingbrough and Selby. The X4 (pre COVID-19 suspension) provided an additional service between Goole and Selby in each direction on college days only. Service 4 also operates on Saturdays, with four return journeys between Hemingbrough and Selby only.

The main loss from the cancellation of the 4 is in North Yorkshire, with Hemingbrough, Cliffe and Osgodby set to be without an off peak or Saturday bus service. For the East Riding, Howden no longer has a bus link to Selby (college service excepted) and there are set to be slightly less services between Goole and Howden (link maintained by East Yorkshire services 155/X55) and Goole and Selby. Arriva state "unfortunately the number of customers using this route has been in decline for some time, and the service is no longer financially viable".

Service X4 is replaced largely by new service 3 between Thorne, Moorends, Rawcliffe Bridge, Goole Hospital, Hemingbrough, Cliffe, Osgodby, Selby College and Selby Bus Station. The 3 will operate on college days only at 'peak-time'. I cannot currently find a timetable but Arriva note there will be a morning bus to Selby and a return bus in the afternoon. It is also worth noting that Thornes Independent operate service 4A between Hemingbrough, Cliffe, Osgodby, Barlby and Selby Monday to Friday, with a 0750 departure from Hemingbrough and 1610 return from Selby Bus Station; on schooldays this also serves Selby schools.

For Howden the X4 is replaced by new service 2 between Newport, Gilberdyke, Eastrington, Howden, Airmyn, Camblesforth, Selby College and Selby. There is also a new (for Arriva) service 1 between Market Weighton, Holme on Spalding Moor, Bubwith, North Duffield, Selby College and Selby. Like the 3, I can't currently find an available timetable, but Arriva state they are both peak time college day only services. The 1 does provide a little extra flexibility from Holme on Spalding Moor, Bubwith and North Duffield to Selby alongside Thornes Monday and Friday service 1.

Arriva's main route into the East Riding will remain the 401 between Goole, Rawcliffe, West Cowick, Snaith and Selby, which continues to operate hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes but to a revised timetable. The Monday to Friday service 400 variation via Goole Hospital and Airmyn, which operated at peak and college times, is withdrawn in favour of all services running as route 401; the new services 2 and 3 provide a replacement for Selby College passengers and Airmyn retains a Monday to Friday off peak service on East Yorkshire service 88. So far I can only find the new 401 timetable on bustimes.org, but it seems the Monday to Friday 0702 Rawcliffe to Selby 'short' is withdrawn (first service from Rawcliffe now at 0718), as is the 1810 Selby to West Cowick 'short'  (last service now at 1745 weekdays or 1717 Saturdays) and the Monday to Friday 1823 Goole to Selby (last service now at 1740).

        Friday 27th:
Predominately a Saturday service will be provided, but with the following exceptions:
        • Black and White Coaches, CallConnect (including timetabled services 55, 58 and 59), Dents Coaches, Hornsby Travel and Isle Coaches will operate a normal Friday service. For CallConnect, this is an improvement on last year when a Saturday demand responsive service was provided between Christmas and New Year, and the usual Friday/weekday timetabled services on routes 55 (Santon-Appleby-Scunthorpe), 58 (Isle of Axholme local service) and 59 (Wroot-Blaxton) did not operate. This will be the last day of operation for Dents Coaches Friday Brigg to Lincoln service. For Black and White Coaches, this means the 252 (Goxhill-Barton) will operate it's usual solitary weekday school holiday departure from Goxhill at 0750.
        • East Yorkshire services 88 (Goole-Rawcliffe Bridge), 183 (Hessle Town Service), 197 (Pocklington Town Service) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal. A Saturday service would leave the 88, 183 and 197 unserved.
        • East Yorkshire services 106 (Sat only Hull to Cottingham nightbus) and 143 (Mon/Wed/Sat North Ferriby-Brough-Beverley service) will not operate. As per the East Yorkshire online timetables, the usually Saturday only 173 (Withernsea-Hull) will operate.
        • As noted on Stagecoach publicity leaflets, Stagecoach service 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby) will operate as normal. A Saturday service would leave the 25 unserved.
        • Contrary to Stagecoach publicity leaflets, Stagecoach service 260 (Barton Villager) operated as normal.
        • First York will be operating additional early morning journeys compared to their normal Saturday timetable.
As a result of the above service levels, the 10 Scunthorpe Town Service will not operate at all between Christmas and New Year. The usually Saturday only late night Hull to Barton service 350 journeys will operate additionally on Friday 27th and Monday 30th as part of the Saturday service provision.

        Saturday 28th:
        Normal Service.

        Sunday 29th:
        Normal Service.

        Monday 30th:
Predominately a Saturday service will be provided, but with the following exceptions:
        • Black and White Coaches, CallConnect (including timetabled service 59), Hornsby Travel and Isle Coaches will operate a normal Monday service.
        • East Yorkshire services 88 (Goole-Rawcliffe Bridge), 143 (North Ferriby-Brough-Beverley) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal. A Saturday service would leave the 88 unserved.
        • East Yorkshire service 106 (Sat only Hull to Cottingham nightbus) will not operate. As per the East Yorkshire online timetables, the usually Saturday only 173 (Withernsea-Hull) will operate.
        • East Yorkshire will not operate Friday and Saturday only evening journeys on routes 18, 75, 121 and X47; normal Monday evening services will still operate on the last three services.
        • Contrary to Stagecoach publicity leaflets, Stagecoach service 260 (Barton Villager) operated as normal.
        • First York will be operating additional early morning journeys compared to their normal Saturday timetable.
        New Years Eve:
Predominately a Saturday service will be provided until around 2000 when services will finish, but with the following exceptions:
        • Black and White Coaches, CallConnect (including timetabled service 59), Hornsby Travel and Isle Coaches will operate a normal Tuesday service.
        • East Yorkshire services 88 (Goole-Rawcliffe Bridge), 197 (Pocklington Town Service) and 360/361 (Goole-Scunthorpe) will operate as normal. A Saturday service would leave the 88 and 197 unserved.
        • East Yorkshire service 143 (Mon/Wed/Sat North Ferriby-Brough-Beverley service) will not operate. As per the East Yorkshire online timetables, the usually Saturday only 173 (Withernsea-Hull) will operate.
        • As noted on Stagecoach publicity leaflets, Stagecoach services 25 (Market Rasen-Grimsby) and 398 (Belton-Gainsborough) will operate as normal. A Saturday service would leave these routes unserved.
        • Contrary to Stagecoach publicity leaflets, Stagecoach service 260 (Barton Villager) will operate as normal.
        • The Grayscroft Coaches Tuesday service 28 (Sandilands-Mablethorpe-Louth-Grimsby) will not operate.
        • First York will be operating additional early morning journeys compared to their normal Saturday timetable.
        New Years Day:
No Services. (As usual the train will provide an alternative for some communities, with many services running near normal Wednesday timetables).

        Thursday 2nd January:
Normal Services resume, except First South Yorkshire will operate a Saturday service on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd January before resuming normal timetables.
