East Yorkshire Spring Bank West and Willerby Road Changes

East Yorkshire Buses amended their Spring Bank West and Willerby Road services 35 and 51 on Sunday 15th February.

On service 35 between Hull and Willerby, departures from Hull Paragon Interchange now operate directly to Spring Bank via Park Street as opposed to using Ferensway and Blundell's Corner. This is in line with changes to East Yorkshire's other Spring Bank service, the 104, and is a return to the route used by East Yorkshire when Paragon Interchange first opened. Only one stop is missed on Spring Bank - within walking distance of either the Interchange or the next stop westbound on Spring Bank - and I'd argue the time saving justifies it.

The 35 has a slightly reduced Monday to Friday early morning service. The first departures from Willerby at 0546 and 0624 are merged into a 0600 service and the first departure from Hull Paragon Interchange is now at 0640 rather than 0605. On Saturday mornings the 0654 first service from Willerby is now at 0710 and the 0630 first service from Hull is now at 0735. 

Service 51 between Hull and Wymersley Road also has a new route in Hull City Centre; in line with other East Yorkshire Anlaby Road services, inbound journeys now route directly to Paragon Interchange, omitting the City Centre Loop. At the other end of the route, the 51 no longer operates via Wymersley Road and Wold Road in both directions, instead operating a loop via Willerby Road, Wymersley Road and Wold Road back to Willerby Road. For the section of Willerby Road between County Road and Wymersley Road that is a large increase in service provision.

Three morning journeys into Hull on service 51 now start back at Willerby Square, bringing back memories of the old service 34 which combined what are now the 35 and 51 at lower demand times of day. Departures from Willerby are at 0618, 0648 and 0708 Monday to Friday, and 0658, 0925 and 0945 Saturdays, and in part compensate for the 35's early morning reductions. The first morning departure from Hull on Saturdays is now an hour later at 0735 rather than 0635 and a number of 25 minute gaps between services have been introduced into the every 20 minute Saturday daytime frequency.
