Easter Sunday (1st April) sees changes introduced to services operated by EYMS along the East Yorkshire Coast.
For Service 129 between Withernsea and Hornsea there are just some changes to intermediate times to "help buses stay on time in the busy summer traffic". As an aside, would the service benefit from making the small diversion into Hornsea Freeport car park?
On Service 130 between Hornsea and Bridlington, the weekday 1600 from Hornsea which had operated every weekday between Easter and the end of September will now only operate on weekdays during School Holidays during this time period; the year round 1600 weekend and Bank Holiday departure remains unaffected.
Service X30 between Hornsea, Bridlington and Scarborough maybe withdrawn; it had provided one journey each way on weekdays in the School Summer Holidays offering a Scarborough daytrip option. The separate Bridlington to Scarborough registration was cancelled last month and the new 130 timetable on the EYMS website does not reference the X30, which it had done this early in the year in previous years. No official confirmation from EYMS though.
It will be interesting to see if the 130 has further changes later in the year if Hornsea depot closes, as the timetable is optimised for that depot to work the service. No changes registered yet despite multiple other changes being registered last week for early May to services across the EYMS network.

Hornsea depot will close on 5 May
Changes known about at the moment:
Service 18/18A
Sunday service 18A is withdrawn after operation on Friday 30 March 2018. There are no changes to Monday to Saturday service 18
Service 129
This service will have minor timing changes to improve punctuality. The summer Sunday buses start on 1 April.
Service 130/X30
The weekday summer extra journeys restart on Tuesday 3 April. The Monday to Friday journey at 4:00pm from Hornsea to Bridlington will operate in School Holidays only.
Service X30 is withdrawn and won’t be back in 2018
Service 158
This service is withdrawn. The last day of operation will be Saturday 31 March 2018
Service 220/221
The Sunday buses between Hornsea and Aldbrough are withdrawn after Friday 30 March 2018. In Summer, alternative buses are provided by service 129. The Monday to Saturday service is unchanged.
Service 270
This service is withdrawn. The last day of operation will be Thursday 29 March 2018
Staff have been informed that there will be major changes from May 6. Sounds like any service that doesn't turn a profit will be scrapped. Non profitable contracts are being handed back as well.
Virtually all the changes outlined are a result of end East Riding of Yorkshire Council contracts which have been widely discussed and consulted on previously. They are not connected to Hornsea Depot closure.
Not directly associated with Hornsea but another change not yet publicly announced is that EYMS will operate the Bridlington Park and Ride this year
Looking through the list of changes on the gov.uk site it seems the biggest changes are hitting the Pocklington area with the loss of the 195 (Shopper bus) and the 18 from Holme Upon Spalding Moor to York both getting the chop. In the east of the county, Alborough is also badly hit with the loss of the 220/221. I hope EY are ready for the backlash from commuters who will need to find alternative ways of getting to work.
Not part of this thread, but there are very good results for EYMS in Hull in the latest Transport Focus Bus Passenger Survey at https://www.transportfocus.org.uk/research-publications/publications/bus-passenger-survey/
91% of passengers 'Satisfied' or 'Very Satisfied' of whom 64% 'Very Satisfied'.
By comparison, the equivalent figures for Stagecoach in Hull are 88% and 46%
See there a boat load of changes on the Bridlington network, including the loss of the 124/134/135 services.
It seems from VOSA that the Bridlington Town network is being totally re-structured and replaced with new services numbered 2-6, while 510 is renumbered 14. However, 502/4 to Bempton and Buckton appear not to be replaced. At the same time, Bridlington - Filey - Scarborough services 121, 120 and X20 are re-cast as 12 and 13. The missing numbers 1 and 7-11 are taken by the re-organised Scarborough Town network to be introduced on April 15, thus bringing all routes in the Bridlington-Scarborough area in the 1-14 range (apart from 128 and sea-front 109).
The withdrawal of 124, 134 and 135 seems of a piece with the withdrawal of similar infrequent routes 195, 196, 198 and 199 in the Pocklington area, and for that matter of Hull-Hornsea 230.
The only other regular services withdrawn on 6th May are 18 and 220/221, where it seems likely that some replacement will be provided, particularly as ERYC were unwilling to allow the withdrawal of 221 in the 2016 review as it would have left some villages without a service.
Most of the other withdrawals are of school services, and there are clearly major changes in the Beverley - Cottingham - Hessle and Priory Road corridors with new numbers introduced and the Hessle - Swanland extension of 180 apparently lost, partly replaced by an extension to 143.
All the above comes with the usual caveat that VOSA registrations are notorious for their scope for misinterpretation !
Residents of Bubwith holding emergency meeting with councillors this week as they will be left without a service once the 18 stops. Holme Upon Spalding Moor will be served by a rerouted 45/46 service. Foggathorpe and Thorganby will also be bus less. Wheldrake is served by the York pullman service 36.
Still no official word from EY about these cuts, hopefully they're still in discussion with the councils to try and rescue something.
Bridlington services 502/504 which are day and evening services to Bempton and and 503 to Darwin Rd are included in the list of services cancelled.
The timetables for the revised Scarborough Town Network are now on the EYMS website. There appears to be a reduction in Peak Vehicle Requirement from 21 to 17, with the main reductions in the Scalby Road corridor, where the co-ordinated 15-minute service on 13/14 and 15 is not directly replaced, with Cloughton no longer served by EYMS. However, most if not all stops are still served either by Arriva X93 or replacement EY services 9/9A and 11. There are also a few improvements, such as to the Field Lane area of Scalby.
The new PDF timetables appear to be extracts from a new Scarborough Timetable book which has at least 24 pages.
I have arranged a series of events to inform the public about the Scarborough changes. These are listed on EYMS website.
Slight correction to my post above - EYMS will continue to serve Cloughton on NYCC-supported 115 to Ravenscar (two return journeys M-S).
Very good to read about the series of events to publicise the changes - let’s hope people appreciate the positives !
It appears the new Bridlington routes (excluding 12/13) is a PVR of 6.
Service 7 is self-contained with a PVR of 1
Service 2 works 3 then 4 then 5 then 4 then 5 then 6 then back to 2, PVR of 5.
The routes replaced by the new Bridlington routes 2/3/4/5/6/14 currently appear to have a PVR of 7.
503,504,510,512,513 all have a PVR of 1, while 505/506/507/517 appear to work a 3-hourly cycle requiring 3 buses.
The revised (and much easier to understand) network therefore saves one bus. In practice, this means that West Hill is reduced from 2 bph on 505/6 to 1 bph on 3 and the Viking Road/Crayke area is reduced from every 45' on 512/3 to 1 bph on 6. Most other areas seem to retain a broadly similar level of service to now.
Current 504 to Bempton/Buckton also requires one bus, but is not replaced by the new network. However, it may be replaced by a tendered service as the latest EYMS e-mail newsletter states :
"Services 18, 220, 221, 230, 124, 134, 135, 195, 196, 198 & 199 and Bempton/Buckton buses will no longer be run by EYMS. The councils will be providing information about new operators/alternative services nearer the time.
Every service cut is blaming the council. But why have EYMS not looked at the services instead of the we get paid so we are not bothered attitude.
I assume you are referring to the 158, 270 and Sunday 18A and 220 which EYMS state are being withdrawn as a result of ERYC's supported bus services review.
What changes do you feel EYMS should/could have made to enable these services to continue on a commercial basis in some form ?
EYMS have had every opportunity to look at council funded services in order to improve the services and try to make more of them. However there attitude has always been we are getting paid so we are not bothered. It was always said that if the council pulled the plug EYMS would be left with nothing.
Instead of looking for work the attitude has always been we want somebody serious to pay.
Priory Park P&R was the perfect example.
Peter Shipp sulked and tried everything when CT won the contract.
EYMS knew how lucrative the work was but when the contract came around they tried to screw the council.
Stagecoach said they would operate it commercially as they knew how much they could make and the council gave it to them.
Thanks - a good point and clearly a major opportunity missed for EYMS. Still, it shows "the system was working" if a complacent local operator lost out to a more innovative competitor, which has to be a good thing.
However, the loss of the Pride Park P&R was just over eight years ago, so is water under the bridge, and local tendered services are a different market entirely. For example the Hessle and Withernsea Town Services haven't been run by EYMS for years, and their operators have shown no more enthusiasm to continue with them than EYMS have with the services they have lost. I can't really see how EYMS are behaving any differently from any other bus operator in the area, or further afield for that matter. Do you think Stagecoach, Arriva or First would have done anything different ?

CT Plus won the Priory Park and Ride Contract on a higher Tender price than both EYMS and Stagecoach. That was the issue. Stagecoach currently operate the service on a commercial basis with a reduced frequency and different terms to the tender back then. It is well operated but by not a gold mine. By far the majority of the EYMS network is commercial. twlifht
Nice to see EYMS have finally announced the new Bridlington of services. Sadly service 5 route on the map is different to the service 5 route description.
So immediate confusion for the travelling public.
Stagecoach registered the service commercially. And were happy to that.
EYMS new the service requirements because they operated it in the past.
So why didn't they register it commercially.
But I go back to a question I have raised before.
David Shipp has been running the show for 7 months and has done more to try and bring the company on track than Peter Shipp has done in the past 20yrs .
Why did Peter let it get so bad and then hand over the reins
Re Anon at 18:35 on 10 April, the error in the description of new route 5 has now been corrected.
