East Yorkshire Buses made a number of changes to their service 12 between Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough from Sunday 15th February.
Arguably the biggest change was the extension within Scarborough of most Monday to Saturday daytime journeys from the Railway Station to Peasholm Gap, operating via North Marine Road. East Yorkshire's explanation at the time focused on the benefits to North Marine Drive, which went from I think 4 services per day on now withdrawn route 5 to Ravenscar, to an hourly service on route 12. It does though also introduce new connectivity from Bridlington to Scarborough North Bay and it's attractions including Peasholm Park, so certainly has benefits to customers along the whole route.
Smaller, but useful changes were also made in Bridlington. Previously services which diverted in Bridlington via both Bempton Lane and Trentham Drive were limited to the 0710 Scarborough to Bridlington and the 1525 Bridlington to Scarborough Monday to Friday, as well as three Sunday daytime journeys in each direction. "Following feedback from the East Riding EP Forum" [EP = Enhanced Partnership], the Monday to Friday 0555 Scarborough to Bridlington, the Saturday 0615 and 0715 Scarborough to Bridlington, the Monday to Saturday 1655 and 1750 Scarborough to Bridlington, the Monday to Saturday 1830 and 1930 Bridlington to Scarborough and all Sunday services (hourly frequency) now make the diversion as well. This is a significant boost to Bempton Lane and Trentham Drive's early morning, early evening and Sunday service provision, with only a small time penalty for other passengers.
On Sunday 29th March, East Yorkshire reintroduced seasonal service 13 between Bridlington and Scarborough via the coastal holiday villages. Previously the 13 made a short diversion via Aquarium Top for Scarborough South Bay en-route to/from Scarborough Station. Now (apart from the final evening services into Scarborough) it has been revised to operate an anti-clockwise loop via the South Bay Seafront, around Marine Drive to Peasholm Gap then via Columbus Ravine to Scarborough Station. This provides greatly enhanced access to Scarborough's tourist attractions. Outbound services continue to serve Aquarium Top after departing the Station.
Rather unfortunately, the co-ordination between services 12 and 13 has been notably downgraded with these changes. Last year there were departures every 20 minutes from Scarborough to Filey in peak Summer, and a 20-40 minute interval between Bridlington services. Now it is every half hour from Scarborough to Bridlington - better - but with the 12 and the peak Summer Filey 'short' service 13 workings both leaving Scarborough Station at five minutes past the hour - Scarborough to Filey on East Yorkshire Buses is effectively downgraded from every 20 minutes to every half hour. From Bridlington, in 2025 there was a half hourly service to Scarborough, and from Filey to Scarborough in peak Summer departures left at 8, 25 and 44 minutes past the hour. In 2026, the 12 departs Bridlington at 25 past the hour and the 13 at half past the hour - from half hourly to almost 'hourly with a duplicate'. From Filey into Scarborough services depart at 10, 22 and 52 minutes past the hour.
It is also worth noting that the 2040 and 2140 service 13's from Scarborough to Bridlington and 2200 from Bridlington do not return this year. In 2025 they had operated Friday and Saturday all season, plus Monday to Thursday from late May to late August. Last departures from Scarborough are now 1935 and 2105 from Bridlington.
