Wicstun Express to Brough

As part of February's A63 corridor changes by EYMS, the X4 Wicstun Express from Market Weighton to York will be extended to start from Brough, also serving Elloughton, South Cave and Sancton. 4 journeys will operate on weekdays, and 3 on Saturdays, providing links for commuters and leisure travel.

The changes do mean a slight reduction between Market Weighton and York from the current 5 weekday/4 Saturday journeys into York, but the X4 does gain a later last departure from York under the new timetable, ideal for commuting. Market Weighton also has the hourly X46 and hourly 746 into York.

Good to see EYMS trying out new links from Brough, Elloughton and South Cave into York, with a nice quick, direct route.

I guess the X4 will pass from Pocklington to Elloughton depot as part of these changes.

In the 1970s there was a service between Hull, Elloughton, Market Weighton and Pocklington. It was numbered 5X and ran once a day in each direction (mornings from Pocklington, afternoons from Hull).
After a few years the morning journey was extended to start from York, running non-stop to Pocklington. In the early 80s more journeys were added and the services were renumbered 855 and 856. In the mid 80s the 855 was renumbered 857 and the 855 number was re-used on a Hull to Howden service. The 856 and 857 were gradually withdrawn during the late 80s.

Now you mention that I'm sure about 10 years ago EYMS has a Summer service from Hull to York and Knaresborough that operated via South Cave and Market Weighton, numbered 857. Obviously the route number wasn't chosen randomly!
